Being environment friendly means not only planting trees and banning plastics but also reducing the use of chemical fertilizers. An innovative step taken by Loyola International School, Mahanagar Branch, Lucknow is the construction and maintenance of a compost pit.
Two compost pits were inaugurated on 10 September, 2019 on the occasion of Founder’s Day under the programme ‘From Garbage to Garden.’ Students and staff are encouraged to bring and drop any organic waste like vegetable and fruit peels, tea-leaves, left over food, mulch etc. The best thing about this programme is that it is carried out by the students- from grades II to X. So far one compost pit is ready and the fertilizer from it is being used in the school garden. The second one has been sealed and the compost would be ready in about a fortnight.
